Genetic skin typing is for all people, whether young or old, man or woman, dark or fair. To get a fair assessment of your present skin type, answer the following questions with a yes or no as truthfully as you can. Your answers should be based on the general condition of your skin since childhood to adulthood, and not just at present since what you may be feeling right now is just a temporary condition.

This survey is used by leading skin care specialists to cover all basic skin types.

1. Is your skin flexible and pliant daily? Flexible and pliant skin is supple and plump, goes back to its original shape when touched, similar to a rubber ball. You rarely get eye bags or skin that sag.

2. Is your skin elastic? Pinch the skin on the back of your hand for about five seconds. Observe the length of time it needs to revert back to shape. Normally, it should take less than three seconds. Anything longer means your skin has low elasticity.

3. Does your skin appear radiant and glowing? Radiant skin is bright skin, with a light that seems to glow from the inside.

4. Is your skin not easily affected by outside disturbances? An affirmative answer shows that your skin is not influenced by pollution, smoking, caffeine, junk food and lack of sleep.

5. Does your face become oily again after washing your face four hours ago?

6. Do you have somewhat large pores?

7. Does your skin feel thick and rough?

8. Do you suffer from premature aging? Or do you look younger than your real age?

9. Do burns affect your skin easily?

10. When nervous, do you easily blush? Not knowing what to answer to this questions just gives a negative answer. You would know if you truly blushed whenever you feel nervous.

11. Is your skin prone to redness with wind or upon washing with soap and water?

12. Do you often have sinus or allergy problems?

13. Does your skin feel rough even if it looks smooth with small to medium sized pores? A sandpapery feel of the skin is an affirmative answer.

14. Do you have dry and oily patches on your skin? A normal T-zone oiliness and dryness in the facial skin is not an affirmative answer. But, having unusual patches of dry and oily skin is.

15. Does your skin look dull and gray?

16. Do you see fine lines appearing on your face that are not he direct result of facial expressions.

18. Do you have skin that has a rough texture with bigger bumps?

19. Is your skin prone to pustules or cysts?

20. Do you often feel pain on your skin?

Here's how to score the survey. Count up all your yes answers.

If your yes answers add up to:

1-4 You have normal skin.

5-8 You have oily skin.

9-12 You have sensitive skin.

13-16 You have oily dry skin.

16+ You have acne type skin.
